The best way to shave your head Bald *The Closest Shave*

You want to know the best way to shave your bald head?

Well I'm going to tell you but first we need to be sure of what we actually mean by "best".

When it comes to head shaving in the best way possible think about your criteria for what makes it the best head shave.

Do you want it to be the quickest possible? Do you want it to be the most cost effective? Maybe you want to be left with the least amount of irritation?

These are all great aims but for many bald men; best means "closest".

Being able to shave your head as closely as possible does 2 things. First, which I also enjoy, is that shaving your head to the skin gives you more time between shaves. This essentially means maintaining that cleaner bald headed look for longer. Your bald hair cut lasts longer.

The second reason most men want as close a bald head shave as possible is to eliminate the appearance of their balding pattern or what a lot of guys will call, the horse shoe.

Personally, like with my entire philosophy on dealing with going bald in general I really think most men should get comfortable with some shadow showing but avoiding the "toilet seat" as someone once called it, remains a top priority for many.

Shaving your head at different lengths comes with many different benefits but those will be covered in other posts.

So let me show you the best way to shave your head in terms of finished closeness of the shave.

This test began with around 7 days of hair growth on my bald head. I'd say in grade length we are looking at a #0.5 to #1 here.

For this bald head shaving test I will compare a normal hair clipper, vs close cutting mini clippers vs an electric head shaver vs a razor blade and I will show you how close each of them shave. I will link all of the products to the amazon store via Affiliate link. Just click on the product name to see it in more detail.

For the normal length hair clipper (no guard/#0) I will be using the Remington Quick Cut Pro, seen on the left in the above image. I'll then compare it to the closest cutting clippers I have used the Aqua Blade (on the right in above image) from Wahl. I have the Multigroom 10 in 1 version. Some call this style of hair clippers, mini clippers. To follow I'll then compare this to an electric head shaver, I'm using the Remington Rx7 seen in my left hand in the below image and to finish I'll use a standard 5 bladed razor and shaving gel, seen below on the right. Let's Begin.

So after shaving quickly with the Remington Quick Cut pro here are the results.

You can see it doesn't take much off of the 7 days of hair growth but it is shorter.

This method of head shaving is ideal for those guys who prioritise speed and simplicity. It just doesn't get any easier than running the quick cut pro over your head once a week. Perfect for those who quite honestly really DGAF.

We've moved on to the result of the Normal clippers (seen below on the right) vs the now shaved area on the left done by the Wahl Aqua Blade Clippers.

You can see there is a significant difference. These Wahl clippers are ideal if you still want simplicity and comfort but want to maintain a cleaner look most days. I went on a recent road trip to through the USA and only took these clippers and a #1.5mm guard for my beard. They were fantastic. I did my head every 4 days or so with these.

The next test was to compare the Wahl Aqua Blade Clippers to the Remington RX7 electric head shaver. Most of the top shavers in this category will give you a similar end result. I'll have more detailed separate articles on electric head shavers but when choosing a specific model it really comes down to reliability and the ability to buy replacement shaving heads. Go cheap and expect 3 months of good use out of the box. Pay extra and expect 6. I suggest finding one with a decent warranty policy.

All that aside here is the finished look with the electric shaver result on the right.

This is a very clean shave and I'd describe the finished result as being as close as *1 day post razor shave.

*however this isn't entirely accurate and you'll see why next.

So next in this test I got to shaving with a brand new razor. I'm using the Harry's razor but once again all 5 bladed in this category will give very similar results out of the box. I shaved with the grain for comfort and less risk of cutting myself but check out the results.

Despite using the razor on the left hand side vs the electric shaver on the right hand side of my head, the razor actually hasn't cut as close as the electric head shaver.

I was really surprised by this result and so there was only one thing left to do. I lathered up once more and shaved against the grain with another razor shave.

Here you can see the final result.

Shaving with a razor against the grain (direction of hair growth) will shave slightly closer than an electric shaver. You really can't shave any closer than this. It doesn't matter if its a safety razor or a multi-blade razor. I physically couldn't have shaved any closer than what you see in the above picture.

So to conclude this test. If by the "best" way to shave your head you really mean, how can I shave my head as close as possible?

Nothing will beat shaving your head with a razor against the grain.

All of that shaving made my head a little sore so to finish off I put on (as I do daily) my Bald Cafe Bald Head Butter which is available HERE.

I really hope this little test helped in some way and until next time, thanks! -  Harry - Baldcafe
